Haywire NY screening: Gina Carano pics and quotes

Posted by: p0d on December 1, 2011

Gina Carano: “I’ve dealt with men larger than me, smaller than me, I’ve been hit where I can’t catch up with my head, and I’ve been hit not so hard. It’s all about the chemistry with the person. There were no egos involved, it was all about creating the best fight scene that we could. It was ok to get hurt. With the stunt guys also, they were used to actresses. I actually had to tell that one stunt guy, ‘No, you put me into that wall as hard as you can.’ And he put me into it so hard I actually went white for a second. But I actually enjoyed that. Is that weird? …Fighting is the most honest form of communication you can get. [Michael]Fassbender just became a mentor to me, he was so supportive. And he was so down to just bang into everything we could, vases, everything. He always was like ‘We need to slam our head into that wall a little harder.“ credit: Lara

”Meet Miss Haywire. This high-tension action thriller — stars Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Michael Fassbender, Channing Tatum and was directed by Steven Soderbergh. Yet all anyone wants to talk about is the film’s lone female: Gina Carano.” Ewan McGregor: (on Carano)That girl is a star, just you wait and see…The movie is amazing, but at the end of the day, who doesn’t like to watch a girl kicking some ass?” credit: swinjen (etonline.com, collider.com)

Haywire trailer 2 & co-star Michael Fassbender on the fightscene

Posted by: p0d on November 10, 2011

Fassbender: “I remember it clearly…’She is supposed to pick up a vase and it breaks away, and the stunt guy said, ‘She’s going to grab it and hit you on the side of the head. But the one thing that’s important as she swings toward your head is you don’t look at her. You turn your head away and take the hit.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, I got it.’ Of course, Gina picked up the vase and I looked right at it. It was like a camera bulb had gone off…He(his character) makes his first maneuver on her at the door, and it should be a quick kill but it all goes wrong. And then it’s a matter of finding anything, something hard or that has a sharp edge. It’s an anything goes type thing. These fights are messy. Yeah, it was fun. A few bruises though…I suppose the life [these spies] are leading seems to be an exciting one, so there are elements of sex and death. (referring to the triangle choke) I mean, I just put my head where they tell me to.“ credit: GGB                        source:EW.com

Interview: Bullett Magazine – Gina Carano: A Knockout Both In and Out of the Ring

Posted by: p0d on November 9, 2011

Bullet Magazine’s interview with Gina Carano for the winter 2011 issue: The mixed martial arts champion is a literal knockout who wields her body like a weapon in the cage. Why, then, has Gina Carano stepped outside the ring for her acting debut, as a vengeful covert agent in Steven Soderbergh’s action-thriller Haywire (an explosive cross between La Femme Nikita and The Bourne Identity)? Two words: adrenaline rush. BULLETT: What convinced you to give acting a shot? GINA CARANO: When I was a little girl, I used to think, If somebody only knew what I was capable of. I didn’t even know what it was at the time, but when you dream big, you eventually attract big things. I don’t look “Hollywood,” and so I figured that if something were to come to me, it would probably come from a director asking me to be a part of their project. And that’s exactly what happened, which is really crazy. [Laughs.] You did all of your own stunts for Haywire. Do you think that forced your co-stars—Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender, and Channing Tatum—to consider you in a different light?… (credit: sstorm10)   CLICK BELOW TO CONTINUE…

AFI Festival ‘Haywire’ screening and star panel: videos, pics and reviews

Posted by: p0d on November 7, 2011

The AFI fest’s secret screening took place yesterday and the film was none other than ‘Haywire’. It’s star, new action heroine Gina Carano, director Steven Soderbergh, noted actors Ewan McGregor and Michael Fassbender were the special guests on hand. “…A handsome, black-haired hardbody who wears an evening dress as easily as she does a hoodie, Carano exudes the sort of self-confidence and physical wherewithal that leaves no doubt she can prevail in any situation…In this, Haywire entirely and winningly succeeds…The script makes no attempt to assert its plausibility or realism; it is, instead, refreshingly frank about what it is, a simple, workable framework for the melees and mayhem…The fine use of locations, elegantly mobile shooting style and hair-trigger editing are all in line with what one expects from Soderbergh…The director shrewdly determined what she could and perhaps couldn’t do, and she delivered with a turn that makes other actresses who have attempted such roles, no matter how toned and buff they became, look like pretenders.” – Todd McCarthy (HollywoodReporter.com)                        (credit: JChap2, Lara, GGB, O_O, & swinjen) CLICK BELOW FOR:  VIDEO PART 2, MORE PICS & REVIEWS…

MMA spotlight: Liz Carmouche vs Sarah Kaufman

Posted by: p0d on July 19, 2011

Be sure to checkout StrikeForce Challengers: Bowling vs Voelker 3 on Friday, July, 22nd as former Marine and top 135lb fighter Liz Carmouche takes on former champion, Sarah Kaufman. (click for interviews) previous comments on Gina Carano: Liz Carmouche: “…She has a great smile, that personality… So, she brings what people want to see, that gentle side of mma, but at the same time (she) can throw a punch, throw a kick, and take a shot. It’s kinda what the sport needs, a face that people find attractive, find as a normal woman, but at the same time (find) as a competitive athlete.” Sarah Kaufman: “It’s great that Gina’s been able to find an avenue where she’s making some decent money and making a living doing something she’s really enjoying. And being successful. Everything that she did, and she did a lot of media and things I’m sure she would have preferred not to do, that definitely helped us as females in the sport. She got that recognition of being on American Gladiators. I think that if she would have won the title fight when she fought Cris Cyborg it would be a different story when she took time off. But because she lost, it was her decision to take a step back and focus on something that was different. And if she wants to come back, she’s of course very welcome.”
