UFC 104
« on: October 25, 2009, 05:14:13 AM »
Anybody else watch this tonight? Everybody i was going for tonight lost. Yoshida, Rothwell, and Shogun all lost.  Rothwell was an early stoppage imo, but i don't think he would have won anyways, he was getting destroyed, and Shogun got completely robbed of the light heavywight title.  That is one of the worst decisions i have ever seen.

Shogun was robbed, yes. Dana White says he feels the same way, and that he got both fighters to agree to a rematch.

Just to show how bad it was, here are scores that other mma websites gave for the fight. (I got all of this info from a thread on sherdog)
For Rua:
FightMetric: 49-47 Rua
Yahoo Sports / Cagewriter: 48-47 Rua
BloodyElbow : 48-47 Rua
USAToday: 48-47 Rua, 49-46 Rua
Savage Science: 49-46 Rua
ESPN / Jake Rossen: 49-46 or 48-47 Rua
MMA Fanhouse / Michael David Smith: 48-47 Rua
411mania.com: 48-47 Rua
CagePotato: 49-46 Rua
MMATorch : 48-47 Rua
MMAJunkie : 49-46 or 48-47 Rua
MMAMania : 50-45 Rua
5 Ounces of Pain : Rua (no score given)
Fightlinker : Rua (no score given)
MMAConvert: Rua ("Machida was given a gift")
ProMMA.Info: 50-45 Rua
Sherdog:
Jordan Breen -- 48-47 Rua
Brian Knapp -- 48-47 Rua
Mike Fridley -- 50-45 Rua
Sports Illustrated (thanks jamers):
Ben Fowlkes - Rua ("They say you have to clearly beat the champion if you want to take his belt. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua seemed to have done just that at UFC 104 on Saturday night, but the mere fact that UFC light heavyweight champ Lyoto Machida was still conscious at the end was apparently enough for the judges to give him the victory")
Joss Gross: 48-47 Rua
Also, right after the fight, espn.com had a headline that said rua decisions machida for the title, so they obviously thought that Rua won too.

For Machida:
5th Round: 48-47 Machida*

Yeah, bad time to stop the fight, but i agree it prob would have not lasted much longer. If Rothwell could have just stopped the takedowns i think he would have handled velasquez on the feet pretty easily.  And as for the rematch between machida and rua, i hope shogun can fight as well as he did last night, cause he deserves to be the champ right now.

I agree, Lyoto could fight better.  Shogun's gameplan worked well in my opinion because machida is mainly a counter puncher and throwing a lot of kicks allowed him to keep a somewhat safe distance and allowed him to cover up the counter punches well.  I think that maybe if shogun had mixed it up and rushed machida a couple times throughout the fight he might have caught him off guard and been able to do some damage. Also, shogun did well in the clinch landing some knees, but i would have liked to see him try for the muay thai clinch a couple more times.

Well, I don't think Shogun was robbed.
When you take the belt, I believe you have to really take it with a KO or a TKO.
In this fight, from my point of view, Shogun didn't never overwhelmed Machida. I guess that's why Lyoto keeped the belt.
Whatever, it was a very nice fight and I can't wait for a rematch.

Tyler D. who's waiting for the comeback of GSP !
