Hmmm, we have newbie, full member, etc... So that can change to like intern, kickboxer, grappler, all-rounder? Just an example, as I'm not too sure what types of ranks we're actually talking about here...

Using terms like grappler, kickboxer, all-rounder is too hard to quantify. Neither is really any better than the other.

Why dont we do like Sherdog and just do belt rankings that has a clear order. White belt for newbies, blackbelts for veterans and ofc all the other colors in between (i dont remember the order). Red belt, which is higher than blackbelt, would be reserved for top level admins like Jen.

Sounds good to me

Ok, thoughts on the whitebelt you now see? Obviously there are other colors.

And we would need to determine how many posts it takes to get to the next level of belts...

Thoughts? It's just a test, and the image will be resized down just a bit...

Everyone will. But first we need to iron out a few things..

What colors?
how many posts it takes to get to the next belt?
Rank names..

Example...

White Belt will go to Beginners with posts of 0-20 at post 21 they will then go to a red belt....etc...

So...you guys decide what colors, level/ranking names, and how many posts it should take..

Beginners - White Belt - 0-20 posts
and so on.....

Some martial arts like Karate and Taekwondo have different belt orders but here is the belt order for Jiu-jitsu:

White, Yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, Purple, Brown, Black, and Red

Red belt is usually reserved for a grandmaster of Jiu-jitsu, equivalent to a 9th degree Black belt. That should go to the admin of the forum/site (which would be Jen in this case)

I think 20 posts for whitebelt is good as you suggested. I think that the number of posts should go up progressively between each ranking, so I think the simplist way of doing just doubling the post requirement for each rank.

White = 20
Yellow = 80
Orange = 160
Green = 320
Blue = 640
Purple = 1600
Brown = 3200
Black =  6400

After black belt, you can have like 2nd, 3rd, 4th, degree blackbelt if necessary. I know the post count seems ridiculously high, but this way its more futureproof. I've seen some people at sherdog forums with 5000+ posts.

But as for what rank to call each color belt, thats a bit harder to do. Beginner - White belt is a good start though

That sounds like a good system. Rank names will be more of a problem...
