Gina Carano: ‘I’m going to keep my clothes on for a while’

MMA star Gina Carano is one of the cover subjects of ESPN The Magazine’s new “Body Issue,” captured in an eye-opening image in which she is seen topless (with her left arm discreetly covering her breasts) and displaying quite an assortment of abdominal muscles.
Before Tuesday night’s Women’s Sports Foundation dinner at the Waldorf I asked her what she thought of how it came out.
“I’m a very shy individual,” she said. “I did like it, but I don’t really show off my body that much. It was a shocker. My whole family was like, ‘OK, OK, is that it? No more.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, no more, no more.’
“I did love being a part of it because it was such a unique issue with a bunch of different people’s bodies. I’m a curvy person. I’ve got meat on me. Maybe, hopefully, little girls out there see my body and can be inspired by that, too. It gives them something else to look at.
“It was all good. But I’m just a shy person, so it’s a little bit hard. It was beautiful, but I’m shy. No more. I’m going to keep my clothes on for a while, I think.”
Carano said she was honored to be included in the Foundation’s 30th annual dinner fundraiser.
“Last year I came here and my sport wasn’t really recognized, but I was so inspired by all the female stories and just being around it that I was like, ‘I really hope I get an invitation next year,’ just to represent my sport, to be a part of it. I feel really blessed to be a part of it.”

Scott Coker Discusses Women’s MMA & Gina Carano

Strikeforce CEO, Scott Coker spoke with MMARising.com, about remaining focused on developing women’s MMA. There’s also been a lot of speculation as to whether or not Gina will be returning to the cage, so I’ve quoted a segment that deals with this:
On a final note, Coker addressed the future of women’s MMA postergirl Gina Carano, who is currently filming a movie and is said to be involved in a second big-budget film this year. “[Carano] still has a home here with Strikeforce and we look forward to her return,” said Coker, who stated that he would reach out to Carano when she had returned home and taken some time off after filming had wrapped. “Cung [Le] waited about 18 months before he came back, so let [Carano] go be a movie star for now.”
Contrary to reports that have suggested otherwise, Carano’s contract is a multi-fight, multi-year deal that extends well beyond what some have speculated. Coker looks forward to Carano’s return and believes that she will be part of the company’s bright future.
It’s a great interview, and worth the read, so check it out here:

Gina On Askmen.com List

Gina came in at #68 in the “Top 99 Most Desirable Women of 2010 list by askmen.com
Why She’s No. 68
Imagine starting up a conversation with a woman in a bar only to have her respond to the inevitable “So what to you do?” with “I’m a professional mixed martial arts fighter.” Gina Carano, known by many as the “Face of Women’s MMA,” started her fighting career by training in Muay Thai and won her first MMA match by submission against Tonya Evinger by using a rear naked choke. As sexy as “rear naked choke” sounds, rest assured, you don’t want to get on Gina’s bad side (which is why you probably voted for her this year to bump her up from her No. 73 ranking on our Top 99 list last year). If you saw her on a recent cover for ESPN the Magazine’s Body Issue, you know that the girl packs serious punch, quite literally. But the ring and magazine covers aren’t the only places where you can see this femme fatale; look for her in Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming spy thriller Knockout. Hey, if the director can find raw talent in the likes of fellow Top 99er Sasha Grey, we’re curious to find out how Carano will flex her acting muscle.
