Haywire premiere in Los Angeles
On January 6th in Los Angeles was the scene for the Haywire premiere. Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor, Antonio Banderas and film director Steven Soderbergh attended the event. About Haywire: In the gripping new spy thriller from Academy Award®-winning director Steven Soderbergh (Traffic, Ocean’s Eleven), a female covert ops specialist goes rogue when she discovers that the very people she has trusted with her life have double-crossed her, putting her and everything she values in jeopardy. Mallory Kane (Gina Carano) is a highly trained operative working for a government security contractor in the dirtiest, most dangerous corners of the world. After successfully freeing a Chinese journalist held hostage in Barcelona, she discovers the man has been murdered—and all the evidence points to her as the main suspect. Suddenly the target of skilled assassins who know her every trick, Mallory realizes someone deep inside has betrayed her. But who? And why? Far from home and on the run, Mallory executes a series of daring maneuvers to throw the local SWAT team off her trail, only to find herself pursued by far deadlier forces. Crossing multiple international borders, she eludes a powerful web of law enforcement and private operatives until she finds herself left with few options. Increasingly desperate to clear her name and reveal the real traitor, Mallory uses her black-ops military training to devise an ingenious—and dangerous—trap. But when things go haywire, Mallory realizes she’ll be killed in the blink of an eye unless she finds a way to turn the tables on her ruthless adversary. Cris Cyborg Tests Positive for Steroids and Suspended
Just in, Cyborg tests positive for steroids and will be suspended for 1 year. Her belt will also be stripped from her. Dana White stated during an radio interview in Las Vegas We were going to hold that division and just do fights with ‘Cyborg’ whenever there was a new contender. She’s getting stripped of the title. I don’t know. We’ll see what happens. Dana also said that this will pretty much end the 145 pound division. So now who is the real 145 lb champion? Update Jan 7th Cyborg issues a statement I am ultimately responsible for everything I put in my body, and at the end of the day, there is no excuse for having a prohibited substance in my system. I do not condone the use of any performance enhancing drugs by myself or any other professional athlete, and willingly accept the penalties and fines that have been handed down to me by the California State Athletic Commission and those of the StrikeForce/Zuffa organization.””While I was preparing myself for my last fight I was having a difficult time cutting weight and used a dietary supplement that I was assured was safe and not prohibited from use in sports competition. It was never my intention to obtain an unfair advantage over Hiroko, mislead StrikeForce, the Commission or my fans. I train harder than any fighter in MMA and do not need drugs to win in the cage, and I have proven this time and time again! My only mistake is not verifying the diet aid with my doctor beforehand, and understanding that it was not approved for use in the ring.” “Unfortunately in the end I suffer the consequences and must accept the responsibility for my actions.””I will do everything I can to show my fans that I can still compete at the professional level without the use of any prohibited substances, and ask God’s forgiveness for my mistake. Update Jan 11th Gina Carano Responds to the Cyborg News in Radio Interview Radio Host: You last fight in MMA as most people know you lost to Cyborg about 2 1/2 years ago and yet she has just recently tested positive for steroids and she had a victory which was overturned I believe. Can you comment on that? Does that that in anyway taint the victory that she had over you a couple years ago? Gina Carano: I would … Continue reading
In Depth Gina Carano Interview With Ariel Helwani
Ariel Helwani does a Gina Carano interview which does clear the air about a wide range of topics from why she dropped out of the June fight to if she has any plans on coming back to fighting in MMA. She also discusses her feelings about the Cyborg fight.
Gina Carano Featured in LA Times and NY Times
Gina Carano appeared in both the NY Times and LA Times. There was some pretty interesting stuff revealed in the in depth articles. It follows Gina’s story from her pre MMA days to what led her to acting in a movie with Steven Soderbergh. This time the Academy Award-winning director reimagines the spy genre within the confines of physical realism. Rather than employ movie technology audiences have grown accustomed to — stunt doubles, quick film cuts, wire work — Soderbergh opted to approach the genre with a real-life fighter as his lead and a real-life elite soldier as his technical adviser. He then surrounded Carano with such actors as Michael Fassbender, Michael Douglas and Ewan McGregor. Source: LA times NY Times Credit: swinjen & Lara
