Strikeforce Cleaning House – Gets Rid of Some of Its Top Fighters

Posted by: Jen on August 4, 2011

Just days after the loss to Miesha Tate, former champion Marloes Coenen was released from Strikeforce.  John Einemo and Valentijn Overeem were let go as well.  This was just days after Alistair Overeem pulled out.

These fighters were a part of team Golden Glory.  Golden Glory requires that all fighter purses are paid directly to GG’s manager Martijn De Jong and not the fighters. That is against Zuffa policy.

Scott Coker Said:

The slots are going to be for the fighters that are victorious right now. We have a lot of athletes under contract and we have to get everybody fights and there’s only so many slots.

There’s only so many TV dates, we only have two more TV dates on the big show before the end of the year. September is already full, December is getting full and then January is hopefully are finals and that’s going to have a full card already. So in fairness to the athletes, why just let them hang around?

Word is that the paperwork has already been filed to let Fedor go next.

    I hope Fedor fights again.

I hope ONLY if he wants it. No heavy influence by his shady, corrupt managers.
